Silver Lining: Action

As a leader, it is your duty to take action, and in doing so inspire those you lead. Sometimes, that calls for finding a silver lining where one isn’t readily apparent. That’s why we’re breaking down a third way leaders can find the silver lining when an issue arises. If you missed parts one or two or just want to read them again, click to check them out now!

Leaders Know That Problems Can Cause Action

Imagine this scene. You’re in your kitchen. You notice some droppings on the floor, suggesting you might have a new resident rodent. Do you close your eyes and move on or form a plan that may or may not involve mouse traps and chunks of cheese? Obviously, you’re going to choose to go to war with your home’s furry invader.

Likewise, good leaders take action to prevent further damage when they find themselves in a bad situation. Perhaps it is time to cut ties with a difficult account to make room for three easier clients. Maybe it’s confronting an employee who is spreading toxicity among your team. Good leaders know that problems are a call to improve the situation quickly and effectively.

At the end of the day…

Problems are rarely fun to deal with, but good leaders understand that each problem has a silver lining. Poor leaders get angry and flustered by problems, but a good leader will start looking for solutions. The next time you face a problem give yourself a moment to feel the frustration, and then grab hold of the opportunity that awaits.
